(KMOV) -- Ameren Missouri and Illinois officials say thousands of costumers were without power Thursday morning after severe storms rocked the St. Louis area.
According to officials, just more than 7,800 houses in Missouri and 1,400 homes in the Metro-East did not have electricity as of 11 p.m.
Of the homes without power, just less than 10,000 of them lived in St. Louis County.
Ameren Missouri crews were out in full force assessing the damage after Wednesday night's severe storm. The company a significant amount of crews were being brought in to aid in power restoration.
Crews also warned of the possibility of down power lines. They say residents who come across a downed line should assume its dangerous and stay clear. They should call Ameren Missouri at 1-800-552-7583.
