(KMOV) – Traffic could be an issue for drivers in the Maplewood area on Wednesday as crews work to make emergency repairs to a major underground stormwater sewer pipe.
Officials said a section of 42-inch corrugated metal stormwater sewer pipe collapsed underneath northbound Hanley just north of Manchester Tuesday night.
At least 30 workers began fixing the pipe around 6 a.m. Wednesday. The curbside lane of Hanley could be closed throughout the day while all lanes of Manchester will remain open. Other lanes of northbound Hanley may be shut down at times.
Officials said drivers should use alternate routes unless traveling home or to a business in the area.
Drivers traveling north on Laclede Station will be able to detour starting at Marshall.
Missouri Sewer District officials said the collapse was found Tuesday and officials used asphalt to temporarily repair it. But with Wednesday’s expected storms, crews said they wanted to repair it as soon as possible.
