MANCHESTER, Mo. (KMOV) – Police say a suspect who allegedly “spiked” soup with a foreign substance at a Manchester Dierberg’s Market salad bar on Friday is in custody.

The incident happened at the Dierberg’s Market at 421 Lafayette Center.

Authorities said witnesses saw the man putting something into the soup and alerted store workers. The employees removed the soup before anyone bought any after the man was spotted doctoring it.

Police said two videos from store surveillance helped them identify the man who tampered with the soup.

Authorities said the man voluntarily went to the Manchester Police Station with his attorney Tuesday evening.

During the interview, police said he admitted to shopping at the store on Friday, but denied putting anything in the soup.

Police said the suspect was arrested and booked on second-degree property damage before being released.

Authorities said evidence would be presented to the St. Louis County prosecutor office, which will decide if charges will be filed.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
