ENERGY, Ill.—Authorities say a woman is hospitalized after being hit by a pickup truck and dragged 50 feet outside a convenience store in the southern Illinois town of Energy.
Police in Herrin say they arrested the driver, who fled on foot after the Monday evening accident outside Casey’s General Store.
There was no word Tuesday on any charges.
The name of the woman, who worked at the convenience store, wasn’t released. She was flown to a St. Louis hospital with injuries that police have said aren’t life-threatening. Her medical status Tuesday was unclear.
The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that a witness said the truck pulled into the store’s parking lot at a high speed, jumped a curb onto a sidewalk and hit the victim as she took a cigarette break.
