VALMEYER, Ill. (KMOV)—Several hogs were killed in a fire that ripped through a farm on the outskirts of Valmeyer, Illinois just after midnight Wednesday.
The fire started inside a barn housing hogs on the Glen Stumpf farm located on the 9500 block of B Road.
The fire was reported shortly after midnight by an officer with the Illinois Department of Conservation. He was patrolling in the area looking for poachers who were gathering frogs out of season.
Fire crews from Valmeyer, Columbia and Waterloo responded to the fire. Because the hog farm is in a rural location, fire crews had to truck water to the scene.
Officials on scene report that several hogs were killed in the blaze.
No word yet on the extent of the damage or how many hogs were killed.
Fire officials are investigating.
