St. Peters man killed during high speed chase, crash in Warren County

WRIGHT CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A man was killed in Warren County Sunday night when, police said, he lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail while fleeing from officers.

Authorities said the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of East Veterans Memorial Parkway and South Strack Church Road in Wright City.

The victim has been identified as Ted Fitzgerald, 27, from St. Peters, Missouri.

Police officials said Fitzgerald was fleeing from officer and traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car. The car struck a guardrail and overturned, ejecting Fitzgerald. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the victim was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to reports, Fitzgerald was not wearing a seat belt. There's no word on what initiated the pursuit.
