ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Authorities have identified the toddler who was killed after being struck by a vehicle in south St. Louis County on Wednesday.
Police said 21-month-old Kourtney Straughn was hit by an SUV outside the Esse Health Center building in the 13300 block of Tesson Ferry Road around 12:20 p.m.
Police said Straughn’s mother was unbuckling her from a car seat when she jumped out and ran into the middle of the parking lot.
Authorities said a man driving through the lot in an SUV was unable to stop in time and hit Straughn.
Medical personnel from inside the building rushed to help the girl, but were too late. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they did not expect charges to be filed in the case.
“We are all deeply saddened by the loss of this 21-month-old child in this tragic accident in the parking lot of our office earlier today,” said Dr. David E Hartenbach, chairman of Esse Healther. “This family is well-known to us and we feel as a member of our own family has been lost today.”
