Police: Man attempts to lure children with candy at Lake St. Louis park

LAKE ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – Police are on the look-out for a man that was reportedly offering candy to young children at a Lake Saint Louis park and encouraging them to come to his car.

According to reports, the incident happened around 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Founders Park. Witnesses say the man was talking with children and offered them candy.  At one point he reportedly told a young girl that the candy was in his car and she would have to come with him, but she refused.

Other parents at the park at first thought the man was a parent with a child at the playground. However, children began telling their parents about the man's behavior. The father of a child confronted the man and he got in his car and sped away from the park.

The suspect was described to police as a white male in his mid-40's with dark hair and a small goatee. He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt and shorts.  He reportedly fled the scene in a silver, Chevrolet Impala.

Lake Saint Louis police would like anyone with information to contact them at (636) 625-8018.
