ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – You might want to make sure your vehicle is in a “metered space” the next time you park at a meter in St. Louis.
Since November, the city has issued 974 tickets to drivers who did not park their vehicles within a metered space.
“"The general rule of thumb is the front of your car should be even with or slightly in back of the parking meter,” Tom Stoff, City of St. Louis Parking Operations, said.
Many drivers told News 4 they think the $25 tickets are invalid parking tickets.
“We are not given a fair chance with the lines that you need to park with so it is kind of like putting us in a situation to get in trouble with the city so we have to pay fines,” Vondale Harris, a city resident, said.
Ticketed drivers can fight this type of violation by going to court but should make sure to take a photograph for evidence.
