ST. LOUIS -- A St. Louis woman is facing federal indictment for allegedly forcing two other women into prostitution.
Federal prosecutors said Tuesday that 26-year-old Carla Mathews was indicted earlier this month on three felony counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion. Mathews does not yet have a listed attorney.

The indictment alleges that starting in 2010, Mathews recruited women, physically assaulted them and forced them to work as prostitutes in the St. Louis area, taking them to hotels and keeping the money collected for their services.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says Mathews confiscated food-stamp identification cards from the women and deprived them of food and drink.
