ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – St. Louis firefighters had their hands full Wednesday morning when they were called to extinguish a blaze at a high rise apartment building in Midtown.
Fire officials said the fire started at the Heritage House apartments in the 2800 block of Olive just before 1 a.m.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene and immediately started evacuating the first and second floors of the complex. Most of the residents living in the complex are elderly and needed assistance with the evacuation.
No injuries were reported and residents were allowed back in to the complex a couple hours later.
Fire investigators later determined that the fire started in a restaurant inside the building.
Officials did not say how much damage the fire caused.
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Chief Jenkerson and Human Resources Director Bill Siedhoff will visit Heritage House residents later on Wednesday.
