ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – Before he signed with the Texas Rangers, Roy Oswalt was considered an option in the Cardinals starting rotation. And now with Chris Carpenter electing to have season-ending surgery, it is easy to wish the team had signed Oswalt when they had the chance – but it isn’t all bad.
Oswalt was impressive on Tuesday night. Actually, it would be considered impressively bad. He allowed three home runs to the first five Chicago White Sox batters he faced.
As the number of starts grows for Oswalt so does the number of earned runs. He allowed just one earned run in his season debut on June 22, but has allowed a total of 14 earned runs in the last 10.2 innings pitched to a heavy 7.79 ERA through his first three starts.
