SWANSEA, Ill. (KMOV) — Police have apprehended a homeless man charged with sexually abusing a young girl on Sunday in Swansea.
Cedric Pollard, 50, was charged with predatory sexual assault, a felony. An arrest warrant has also been issued charging him with probation violation after a residential burglary in Cahokia.
Officers with the Belleville Police Department arrested Pollard late Tuesday night. No details into the arrest have been released.
Police believe Pollard made inappropriate sexual contact with a young girl at a home in the 1700 block of Barbary Way on Sunday.
“When the adults were told by another child they reported to us,” said Swansea Police Chief Michael Arnold. “[They] tried to keep him in the residence for us to arrive, but he took off.”
News 4 located the home where the alleged incident took place. The homeowner said the alleged victim, a 5-year-old girl, is a friend of the family, but doesn’t live there. She said Pollard is a relative of the homeowner.
“If this were somebody where we knew where he lived, had a permanent address, we wouldn’t be reporting to the public this early,” said Arnold. “And the fact that it’s such a young child, too, we want to get this subject off the streets as quickly as possible.”
Police say the little girl was taken to the hospital and is doing OK. The homeowner declined to come on camera, but said he was unsure where pollard might be.
His bail has been set at $200,000.
