RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV) – Authorities said fireworks caused an explosion that damaged a school attached to a church in Richmond Heights on Monday.
Police say residents near the Church of Immacolata in the 8900 block of Clayton heard a loud explosion around 10:20 p.m. Monday.
A church custodian saw damage to a dumpster in the parking lot at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday morning and called police.
Officials with the St. Louis Archdiocese said the explosion also damaged a window at a school run by the church.
Archdiocesan officials said they do not believe the church and school were targeted.
Multiple agencies, including Richmond Heights police, ATF and St. Louis County Bomb and Arson, investigated the incident and later determined the explosion was caused by consumer-grade fireworks.
No injuries were reported.
