ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Police say a man was shot in the head when a gunman wielding an assault rifle opened fire on his vehicle in north St. Louis Monday night.

The male victim, 21, was headed south on Shreve Avenue when his passengers noticed the driver of a gray vehicle behind hanging out of his window with a gun.

The gunman allegedly fired at least four or five shots, grazing the victim's head and causing him to hit another car.

Police say the victim then drove his car another block, where he and the three passengers exited the vehicle and ran.

Police are trying to locate the vehicle's passengers, and determine the identity of the alleged gunman.
