O’FALLON, Mo (KMOV.com) -- The dry heat wave now is raising concerns over fires being started by fireworks.

Local police say they’re getting calls from worried homeowners about fireworks going off near houses.

Police in O’Fallon, Missouri say they have received 100 calls on fireworks so far.  In O’Fallon the fine for getting caught with fireworks can reach $500.

"We're going to handle every call we have for fireworks and have been handling this week and we'll take the appropriate action if we can determine who is shooting the fireworks off," said O'Fallon Police Chief Roy Joachimstaler.

All fireworks are banned in Illinois and St Louis City and County. Fireworks are currently allowed in unincorporated parts of Jefferson and St Charles Counties and in city of St Charles.
