500-Acre blaze breaks out southwest of St. Louis

VIBURNUM, Mo (KMOV.com) -- The Quad County Fire Department in Viburnum, Missouri battled a major forest fire Thursday afternoon. The blaze was mainly on forest service property near the intersections of county road 73 and state road 32 near Bixby. 

About 500 acres of forest has burned thusfar.

Quad County and forest service rangers were on scene much of the day fighting the flames.

Authorities confirm they have stopped for the day but will resume Friday morning.
