EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- There’s a new plan to fight crime in some of the most dangerous communities in the area. The tactic uses your tax dollars, no matter where you live.
Federal agents are on duty for the “save our streets” initiative in the Metro East.
The FBI hopes the added money and manpower can quickly cut crime by rounding up the most violent offenders.
They’ll be focusing on cities that have the fewest resources.
“Obviously they’re all cash-strapped communities and desire more police officers, but through budgets and leadership decisions that don’t focus on public safety, the departments are operating at a stressed-out level,” said U.S. Attorney Steve Wiggington.
The “save our streets” task force has already had success in Milwaukee and Los Angeles.
