ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – An officer shot and killed a suspect Thursday night, after the man reportedly pulled a gun on police.
Neighbors say a husband and wife were fighting at their home near the intersection of Mitchell and McCausland when the dispute spilled outside. The woman ran down the street and returned with two officers, according to police.
Police pounded on the door, but the man wouldn’t let them in. They then went around to the back door.
When they got in, the man pulled a gun on them. Officers took cover in the house, gave several commands for the man to drop the gun, then the bullets were flying.
“You could tell there was two different gun shots that went off,” said Amanda Sedovic who lives across the street. “There was four or five and then there was another eight or ten that went off from a different gun.”
A few minutes later Sedovic saw the officer coming out of the house with a wound to his arm.
It’s still unclear who fired first. According to police, it appears only one officer returned fire - the officer who was shot.
The officer, 26, was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. According to reports, he is “in good spirits and will be ok.” He has been with the force five years.
