ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -- There are several St. Louis Cardinals players that need votes before the 11:59 p.m. Thursday deadline to be chosen for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City on July 10.
As of Tuesday, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina trailed San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey by around 150,000 votes. At MLB.com, you can help Yadier Molina and vote up to 25 times. If selected, this would be Molina’s fourth trip to the “Midsummer Classic”.
Cardinals’ shortstop Rafael Furcal leads National League shortstops and is in line to start in the All-Star Game. First-year Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran has the second most votes for NL-outfielders, only trailing Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. Kemp has been on the DL since May 31. Beltran has received more than 3.5 million votes to start baseball's 83rd All-Star Game.
The "Midsummer Classic" is meant to mark around the halfway point of the season, as well as highlight some of Major League Baseball’s best players.
Oddly, Cardinals first basemen Lance Berkman is second in votes the National League for first basemen. Berkman, who’s been on the disabled list since May 20, has only played 13 games this season despite receiving votes for the All-Star Game.
