ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A man was in the hospital after he was shot by a police officer in north St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.
Police said officers were patrolling when they spotted three suspicious looking men in the 4900 block of Terry Avenue around 12:40 p.m.
Authorities said when they approached the men to ask a few questions, two of them cooperated, but a third suspect pushed an officer and ran.
Police said during a brief foot-chase, the suspect reached for a gun and officers fired at least two shots.
Police said they found the wounded suspect hiding under a porch, where he surrendered.
The suspect, who’s in his early 20’s, was taken to the hospital with injuries to the shoulder and hip. He remains in stable condition, according to officials.
Authorities said they later found a semi-automatic handgun belonging to the victim.
Authorities said the officer who shot the suspect is a four-year veteran with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
