ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police have captured a man charged with molesting a child in St. Charles early last week.
Luis Garcia-Maran, 61, was arrested in rural Jasper County, Ill. days after allegedly molesting a 6-year-old boy who lived near his St. Charles neighborhood.
Authorities say Garcia-Maran is currently in the custody of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, but extradition proceedings are underway to have him transferred back to Missouri. Jasper County is located east of Effingham, near the Indiana border.
On Tuesday, police and K-9 units combed a wooded area behind the St. Charles Baptist Church on Muegge, searching for Garcia-Maran.
Officers said he lived close to the search area and was known to ride his bicycle through the neighborhood. Police tell News 4 they believe Garcia-Maran may have hitched rides east into Illinois.
According to police, no other victims have been identified or come forward.
Garcia-Maran's bond has been set at $200,000.
