EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- A southwestern Illinois woman faces up to 10 years in prison now that she's admitted using a painkiller meant for residents of the nursing home where she was working.

Diana Van Etten, 34, of O'Fallon, Illinois pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis to health-care fraud charges.

Authorities say Van Etten was a nurse at the Caseyville Nursing Home when she signed out hydrocodone as if she was giving it to the home's residents. But she consumed the drug herself.
Along the way, prosecutors say she caused 11 false claims for fraudulent prescriptions to be submitted to the state's Medicaid program.
Van Etten's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 5.
