ST. CHARLES, Mo (KMOV.com) – St. Charles police are still searching for a man suspected of molesting a 6-year-old boy.
Police on Tuesday combed a wooded area behind the St. Charles Baptist Church on Muegge near Mexico along the city limit with Saint Peters.
K-9 units scoured the area around the church as other officers searched through logs and limbs for a 60-year-old man suspected of molesting a neighborhood boy.
“I’ve seen a helicopter flyover for like an hour now, it’s a little unerving,” said Teresa Miller, who lives near where police searched.
Officers say the suspect lived close to the search area and was known to ride his bicycle through the neighborhood.
When the news of the manhunt broke, thechurch was full of people, some of them children.
“Vacation bible school here this morning, all of a sudden the police come knocking at your door,” said Jerry Dudley, minister at St. Charles First Baptist Church.
“They asked us to secure the building and we were very careful to do that quickly. We made sure to lock all the doors and make sure the kids were inside. We made sure there wasn’t anybody in the building that wasn’t supposed to be there," said Dudley.
Police believe the man knew his young victim. As the search continues there will be more police in the neighborhood and at the church until the suspect is caught.
