ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – Outfielder Jon Jay is inching closer to returning to the active roster as he was set to begin a rehab stint with the Memphis Redbirds on Tuesday.
Jay was disabled with a sprained right shoulder on May 16.
Prior to the injury, Jay was batting .343 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 27 games played this season.
Matt Carpenter is also currently on a rehab stint after being placed on the DL with a right oblique injury on June 14.
Skip Schumaker was activated from the DL on Tuesday after missing 16 games with a strained hamstring.
