ST. CLAIR, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police in Franklin County have identified a young girl who died after drowning in a St. Clair swimming pool.
Police said deputies got a call Monday to respond to the 200 block of Deep Woods Road in reference to a possible drowning. Upon arrival, deputies saw St. Clair fire personnel performing CPR on a small child. The deputies assisted until paramedics arrived on the scene.
The young girl, Harley Hedge, was reportedly staying with her great grandmother in the Deep Woods subdivision, just off Highway K.
The great grandmother told authorities that she and Harley had been picking berries near their home when Harley decided to go inside the house. Harley started walking in the direction of the home and the grandmother continued to pick berries.
After about three minutes, the grandmother said she did not see Harley in or near the house.
That's when she and some other children there began searching for her. During the search, Harley was found on the bottom of a swimming pool. The grandmother pulled the young girl from the water and started performing CPR.
Emergency crews responded and took Harley to Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, where she was later pronounced dead.
It is not known how or why Harley got into the pool
