Police investigate man's suspicious death in Metro East home

COLUMBIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) — Police have identified the body of a man found dead in Columbia, Illinois on Sunday.

Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards identified the victim as 45-year-old Craig J. Wood, who was discovered inside his home in the 900 block of Bluffside Road around 5:25 p.m.

Neighbors said Wood is divorced and has two children, a boy and girl, in high school. Neighbors said the son apparently could not reach his dad or get in the house on Sunday and called police.

Police officials said an autopsy was performed to determine a cause of death. They said the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Police said 15 MCS investigators were called in to help the Columbia Police Department with the case.

Major Case Squad investigators, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office and the Columbia Police Department continue to investigate this matter.
