(KMOV.com) -- Five years ago, Leann Morrissey's uncle suggested she send cards to expectant military mothers whose spouses were deployed.
She gathered gifts and shipped them, and 'Operation Shower' was born.
"I just decided to do much more than that," Morrissey said. "I realized everything that the families are going through and how oftentimes they are overlooked for what they're sacrificing."
Morrissey runs Operation Shower from the basement of her home, producing and coordinating baby showers all across the country for expecting military families.
The organization donates toys, books, blankets and supplies to expecting mothers, giving them the full baby shower experience.
"One of the great things is bringing moms together," Morrissey said. "That's why we like to do such a big group, so they're all in the same situation. All their spouses are deployed and they're able to bond with each other."
The gifts Operation Shower sends to moms are donated and the workers are all volunteers.
