ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- City officials say construction delays have pushed back the reopening of the Grand Boulevard bridge in Midtown St. Louis for nearly another month.
The rebuilding project, which began early last year, has forced drivers to take detours including Vandeventer, Jefferson and Compton.
The bridge was scheduled to return to service in May, but is now expected to reopen July 14.
The rebuilt bridge will feature wider sidewalks, a median, bicycle paths and bus turnouts. Officials said crews need the extra time to add finishing touches to the project.
Officials said plans to rebuild the bridge have been in consideration for more than 20 years. The roadway services an average of 30,000 drivers each day.
