Teen caught breaking into homes 2 days after getting out of jail

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- St. Louis police say they caught a burglar who broke into homes as soon as he got out of jail.

Police said the suspect, 18, was hitting homes in the Holly Hills and Bevo neighborhoods just days after getting out of jail for burglary.

Authorities said the suspect even admitted to breaking into the same house twice because he needed to go back and steal the power cord for the laptop he took the first time.

“For us that’s the frustrating part, this kid got a year of drug court, and he knew he’d be out if he plead guilty. He’d get a year of drug court and be out and like you said it’s a cycle and maybe by the third time we get them maybe they get some time out of it,” said Detective Sgt. Tony Lachenicht with the St. Louis Police Department.

Charges are still being worked on at the circuit attorney’s office, who so far isn’t commenting.
