Three more suspects indicted in puppy burning case

DALLAS - A Dallas County grand jury indicted three additional suspects Thursday in the animal cruelty case involving "Justice," a pit bull puppy that was covered in lighter fluid and set on fire in April at a Dallas apartment complex.

Arrest warrants were issued for Richard Anthony Valentine, Darius Lamar Carey and Adrian Michael Ayers, and all three are in custody. Carey and Valentine have turned themselves in and are in Lew Sterrett Justice Center Thursday. Ayers was already in custody on an unrelated offense.

The charges have been raised to a third-degree felony due to the use of a deadly weapon. The punishments range from two to 10 years in prison for the offense.

Additionally, a trial date was set for November 12 for Darius Ewing, the first suspect indicted in the case.
