O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV) – Two people have been charged in the death of a 54-year-old man who was repeatedly stabbed during a robbery attempt in O’Fallon on June 8.
Peyton McAnelly, 20, and Avery Cornuelle, 18, were each charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action after they allegedly stabbed Joseph Givens.
Police said 54-year-old Joseph Givens had made contact with the two suspects on Craigslist. Police say they agreed to meet through a Craigslist “alternative lifestyles” encounter in O’Fallon.
Police said officers were called to the 800 block of Blackberry after Givens had been stabbed in the head, neck and upper torso. Police said McAnelly and Cornuele stabbed the man during an attempted robbery.
The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Friday due to his injuries.
The McAnelly and Cornuelle were initially charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action, but those charges were upgraded after Givens died.
Both are jailed on $200,000 bond and don’t have listed attorneys.
