ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – Tony La Russa will return to coach one more game -- the All-Star Game in Kansas City on July 10.
On Wednesday, it was announced who will be joining La Russa in the dugout for the Midsummer Classic this year. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke and Mets manager Terry Collins will join La Russa in addition to the rest of the 2011 Cardinals staff.
Dave Duncan, who left the Cardinals to be with his ailing wife this offseason, Derek Lilliquist, Mark McGwire, Dave McKay, Jose Oquendo and Joe Pettini will serve in the roles they had with last year’s championship team. McKay is currently the Chicago Cubs’ first base coach and Pettini is with the Astros’ pitching coach.
Rangers manager Ron Washington and his coaching staff will occupy the opposing dugout for the 83rd All-Star Game.
Washington selected Royals manager Ned Yost and Athletics manager Bob Melvin to serve as the American League coaches.
The Cardinals defeated the Rangers last year to win the franchise’s eleventh World Series.
