ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Work has stopped on I-55 northbound in downtown St. Louis after workers were shot at Wednesday. The crew has no idea if they were targeted and because of that, MoDOT isn’t taking any chances.
The shots were fired in broad daylight Wednesday afternoon around 2:15. No one was hit and police didn’t find any damage or ballistics. The MODOT crew was replacing expansion joints above the 3rd Street viaduct.
Police are looking for answers, and MODOT won’t send the workers back until authorities find some.
“I still say you have to do what you have to do to keep your workers safe,” said Dolores Glymph who drives the area daily. “If it pushes it back a few days, a few weeks, it’s worth it for safety.”
The expansion joint replacement should take about a week. In the meantime the bridge repair crew is doing work elsewhere.
