ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Police are investigating after an officer shot a suspect in Wellston on Thursday.
Authorities said police were following three men in a white vehicle when it pulled over to a car lot near the intersection of Page and RM Moore around 2:15 p.m.
Police said the driver, 24, exited the car with a gun and pointed it at officers. He refused to put it down after being told three times to drop it, police said.
“As the officer approached the car, the driver got out with a weapon in his hand,” said Rick Eckhard with St. Louis County police. “The officer defended himself and shot the driver.”
Police said one passenger fled the scene and was caught. Another stayed in the car and was also taken into custody, according to police.
Police said the suspect who was shot was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and underwent surgery. He is expected to survive, authorities said.
