HOUSTON (BaseballStL) – “Use two hands when you catch a ball.” It is the phrase every player has heard growing up while playing baseball.
On Wednesday, Carlos Beltran forgot that tip in the 3rd inning when he dropped a routine fly ball down the right field line.
The dropped ball, which occurred with two outs, extended the inning and allowed Astros second baseman Jose Altuve to reach second base. Altuve would eventually advance to third on a balk by Adam Wainwright, who was forced to throw additional pitches due the error.
Following a walk to shortstop Jed Lowrie, Wainwright struck out right fielder Fernando Martinez to end the inning to maintain a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
