BALLWIN, Mo. (KMOV) – A self-described group of gypsies are in jail for allegedly stealing up to 40 iPhones in Ballwin on Tuesday.
Police said it happened after some of the suspects posed as customers at the AT&T store on Manchester Road.
Authorities said the suspects, four men and one woman, were all caught later at a traffic stop in Town and Country.
“Some of them had addresses in the Chicago area,” said Ballwin Police Sgt. Jim Heldmann. “They described themselves as gypsies, they have ties to European countries, we believe Russia.”
Police said they are also looking into whether the suspects are connected to other similar crimes in the area.
