(KMOV.com) -- The Hazelwood School District is upgrading security at all schools and administration buildings, as well as upgrading all their intruder procedures.

All teachers will be given disaster preparedness kits, and buildings will get silent panic alarms doors that can lock from the inside and be remotely locked.

Buildings without security cameras will get surveillance systems and the numbers for every room will be placed where first responders can see them to make sure they know precisely where to go.

“For years we trained teachers to alert and lock down and that was a good method,” said Assistant Superintendent Julie Thorpe. “However, Alice provides us with more options and having options will save more lives and that’s ultimately what we want to do.”

The cost for all the upgrades will be about $2.5 million.
