Man gets 33 years in prison for Alton murder

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- A 21-year-old Berkeley man was sentenced to 33 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in a 2011 shooting death Alton.

Nigel Generally pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in April.

He’s one of the three people who were accused of killing 23-year-old Tyler Hoppe, who died at a hospital after he was shot in his vehicle outside his home in the 1200 block of Hampton Ave. on Dec. 7, 2011.

Police said they believe the shooting happened during an attempted robbery.

Generally had faced up to 40 years in prison and apologized in court.

Two others, including Larry Belk, are charged in the case and are awaiting trials.
