(KMOV.com) -- Two firefighters were hurt in fire that destroyed a home in Bonne Terre, Mo. on Thursday.
Crews responded to a fire in the 40 block of Church St. around 2 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the basement.
Firefighters went inside to fight the blaze and called for additional help. Crews on the scene said because of the construction of the house, it was difficult keeping the fire under control.
They eventually contained the fire but it flared up in another part of the house.
Two firefighters were injured when they fell through the first floor to the basement of the home. They were transported to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Bonne Terre fire officials said the home is a total loss.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
