Apple: Government asked for user data

(KMOV.com) -- The government says you may have to choose between privacy and security.

Apple is the latest major tech company saying the government made thousands of requests for data about its users.

The requests covered 10,000 accounts or devices.

The revelation comes after details were leaked of a secret government surveillance program.

Senator Dick Durbin isn’t convinced it is necessary.

“What I need to know on this subject, if we had know the suspect and gone after those phone records after some suspicion, could we have come up with the same information?” he asked. “Rather than the current method being used. Gather everything, hold everything.”

That surveillance program monitors e-mails, photos, search histories and other data from American-based internet companies.
