(KMOV) – A Fairview Heights man was faced with several penalties for not keeping up with a property that was foreclosed on at least five years prior.
Wesley Johnson co-signed on a home with his step-daughter in 2005 but it was foreclosed on after the woman failed to pay the home’s mortgage.
Turns out the bank dismissed the foreclosure suit and Johnson was left listed as the owner of the home on city records. Johnson said he was unaware.
Johnson only learned of the mistaken ownership after he received several tickets from the City of Fairview Heights for allowing the property to fall into disrepair.
He attempted to clear up the situation but giving a letter saying the loan had a zero-balance.
Johnson hopes to explain the whole situation in court but in the meantime, he owes thousands in back taxes.
News 4 attempted to contact the mortgage company that worked with this man but were unable to obtain a comment.
Wesley Johnson wants to make sure this does not happen to anyone else.
