BELLEVILLE, Ill.—A man facing drug trafficking charges in connection with a St. Clair County judge’s cocaine death wants to be released from jail to enter drug treatment program.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports an attorney for Sean McGilvery asked U.S. Magistrate Donald Wilkerson to reconsider his May 30 order that McGilvery be held in St. Clair County Jail until his trial. Attorney Rodney Holmes says a residential drug treatment program has a bed available for McGilvery.

No court date has been set to hear McGilvery’s request.

The 34-year-old is accused of conspiring with two others to buy drugs in Chicago for resale in the Belleville area.

Judge Joe Christ died in March while he and former Judge Michael Cook were staying at a hunting cabin. Cook faces drug and gun charges.
