(KMOV.com) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a convenience store clerk was shot to death while working overnight in south St. Louis City on Monday.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police said a 30-year-old male clerk at the 7-Eleven Store at Gravois and Bates was shot shortly after midnight.

Officers responded after a customer found the store clerk lying on the floor bleeding, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

The victim, Mon Rai, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

A fund has been set up for Rai's family at Southern Commercial Bank. Donations can be made at any branch.
