(KMOV.com) -- Creve Coeur police warned residents about criminals posing as water company employees to gain entry into their homes, then steal valuables.
On Friday, officers were called to a home in the 11000 block of Tureen Dr. around 1:45 p.m.
The homeowner told police a man wearing blue, uniform-style clothing approached her door. The man reportedly told the victim he was checking lines for a water company, and was allowed to enter the home.
Police say the man took several pieces of jewelry, then fled from the scene.
Creve Coeur police said this type of theft has happened six times within the past year.
Missouri American Water Company officials said workers will never asked to enter a home unless residents have scheduled service ahead of time.
Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call 911 or Creve Coeur dispatch at 314-737-4600.
