(KMOV.com) – The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District says it turned the Spanish Lake pump station back on Thursday morning, a day after it was shut down due to rising flood waters.
MSD said the Watkins Creek pump station, located in the 11000 block of Riverview Drive, was shut down when the water level on the Mississippi River reached 40 feet, flooding the pump station and the surrounding area.
The agency said when the river reaches such heights the pump station cannot function. Officials said river levels on Thursday dropped enough to turn it back on.
The Watkins Creek pump station released wastewater into the Mississippi River while the pump station was not operating. Residents are being asked avoid contact with flood waters in the area.
