(KMOV) -- Firefighters battled a string of vacant house fires in St. Louis overnight.
The fire department confirms five fires in vacant houses and all were within a mile of each other.
They are all suspicious and all believed to be intentionally set.
One fire was on Grand and Cote Brilliante, two were in houses on Bacon and another happened on Cozens near Francis.
Firefighters responded to the first one around 11:30pm Tuesday night. While fighting that one they noticed another one down the street and this continued for hours. Finally, the last crew finished up around 5:30am Wednesday.
About 45 firefighters from 12 fire stations put out the fires.
Fire officials say it's not only a strain on the firefighters and the equipment, had their been an accidental fire in the area or someone trapped inside a home, these firefighters would have been delayed in getting to a more serious emergency.
The fire and police departments are investigating these fires at the same time and News 4 will post more information as it becomes available.
