ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Women's rights champion Gloria Steinem has canceled two St. Louis-area appearances this week because of laryngitis.
Steinem was scheduled to speak Wednesday at Washington University on the global sex trade.
She was also slated to speak Thursday at a benefit for Harriett's List, which supports female Democratic candidates for statewide office.
A Washington University spokesman said Tuesday that Steinem planned to reschedule her lecture there for April.
Thursday's fundraising luncheon for Harriett's List will take place as planned at Norwood Hills Country Club, but Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee will read Steinem's prepared remarks.
Harriett's List treasurer Tracy McCreery said Steinem is expected to reschedule an appearance for the organization.
