(KMOV) -- Renaming “Mark McGwire Highway” is one step closer to happening.
Lawmakers are pushing ahead with a plan to take McGwire’s name off I-70 in St. Louis.
On Monday, the Missouri Senate voted unanimously on the measure to change the name of that stretch of I-70.
The bill now goes to the Missouri House.
Under the proposed bill, that five-mile stretch of the highway would be changed to “Mark Twain Highway.”
It was designated “Mark McGwire Highway” in 1999, one year after the Cardinals slugger hit a then-record 70 homeruns.
