(KMOV) -- A 15-month-old girl was found safe early Monday morning after police say a thief took off in a car while the child was inside.
The mother told News 4 she drove into St. Louis with her baby and her sister-in-law. When they arrived at the Parkway Hotel in the Central West End, she went inside to check in and her sister-in-law got out of the passenger’s side of the car to smoke. She was never more than a couple of feet away from the car.
At that time, a carjacker got into her unlocked car and tried to drive off. The mother, who was checking in, saw this, opened the car door, and tried to get in. She was dragged down the street and when she fell out of the car she banged her head on the ground. She was checked out later and did suffer a concussion.
Authorities received the call for help around midnight Monday morning and found the missing white Mitsubishi Galant about an hour later in the 4100 block of Pine.
Investigators told News 4 that the child was not hurt while in the vehicle with the thief.
The baby has cystic fibrosis and uses a feeding tube. The mother was not able to get a good look at the suspect.
If anyone has any information on this case they are urged to call the St. Louis Police Department.
